serving the needs of chile

Since the ministry in Chile began in 1996, over 2600 wheelchairs, plus walkers, crutches and canes have been distributed from Arica to Puerta Aycen. Each recipient has received a copy of the Bible along with a presentation of the Gospel. Also, a dear friend of the ministry in the USA made small wooden crosses to go with each Bible. A permanent ministry as a non-profit corporation was established in Chile 1997.

In 2002 Chile received over 540 wheelchairs plus other implements through FRIDLA.

Wheelchairs...

Lota, Chile (6 hours south of Santiago) - Jose Luis, 45 yrs old, has Cerebral Palsy. He loves the Lord and wishes to go out into the community and share his faith with others. He has been unable to leave the house in his manual wheelchair. He told us in that his dream and petition to God was for a power chair. God answered him. With the help of Wheels of Hope, we were able to take him an INVACARE power chair. He and his family were so happy and thankful.  We recently received a letter from his sister telling us that daily Jose Luis goes to the plaza in his power chair, reads the Bible and shares the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Before After

Santiago, Chile - Jonathan is a bright and intelligent 19-year-old suffering with Progressive Muscular Dystrophy.  He has lost the ability to walk.   Jonathan is a believer and is active in the Youth Group in his church. Jonathan's younger brother had to push him in his manual wheelchair because of the weakness in his arms.  Because of his size, he had already broken one manual wheelchair.  The request for a power chair came from his pastor. With the help of Wheels of Hope, Jonathan received an INVACARE power chair.  He is now fulfilling his dream to attend college and is an honor student.

San Bernardo, Chile - Hernan, a 68-year-old man who lost his legs by a train at the age of 14. For 54 years he has used a small homemade skateboard and two blocks of wood. He works as a gardener. Due to putting his weight on his shoulders for so many years, he now suffers with a lot of pain. The doctor told him the only answer was a power chair. Again with the help of Wheels of Hope, we were able to give him an INVACARE power chair.

Wheelchair Repair...

Santiago, Chile - Pepe has been trained in wheelchair repair by Patrick Rimke of Wheels of Hope.  The ministry in Chile, CORCADIS, is currently looking for a building to serve as a warehouse, office and wheelchair repair facility.   Our desire is to see additional technicians with disabilities repairing mobility equipment in order to earn a living.
