Serving the needs of Bolivia

Training...

God opened the door for FRIDLA to go into Bolivia in 2001 through COICOM and their "Plan 1000 Days" (a plan to win the country for Christ in 1000 days).

In 2002 we began disability awareness training in Santa Cruz. To date, some 70 people made up of pastors, leaders, and volunteers representing 13 churches and 4 organizations have completed the classes. Several churches have already begun disability outreach ministries.

Pharmaceuticals...

In Santa Cruz there is a very large portion of the population that suffers from rheumatoid arthritis in addition to other types of disabilities. In the Fall of 2002, we delivered 650 lbs. of pharmaceuticals to a Foundation that specializes in helping those with rheumatoid arthritis. The gospel is presented to the patients as they receive their medications.

Wheelchairs...

Aurora is 22 and severely disabled with Cerebral Palsy and requires constant care. She has a sister, Jenny - 24 yrs. old and two brothers 14 & 16. Their father was hit by a car and died after 4 years in a coma. Due to his medical bills, the family lost everything. Their mother, unable to cope with it all, deserted them and went to Spain.

Thus the older sister can only work part time when the brothers are not in school and can care for Aurora. It is difficult to even provide enough for food. This family has no permanent roof over their heads. Aurora needs daily medications. Only Jenny's strong faith in Jesus Christ keeps her going.

Friends of the Disabled Latin America and Wheels of Hope gave Aurora a wheelchair in October, 2002. Aurora was so happy that she wanted to sleep in it.

Before After

Ramiro worked as an engineer until he became ill with rheumatoid arthritis. He lost his job and house due to medical expenses, and his wife deserted him. His legs are frozen in a sitting position; his arms and hands have very restricted movement. He suffers severe pain each time he has to be moved. He needed a power chair to be able to get around.

In July, 2002, Friends of the Disabled Latin America and Wheels of Hope gave Ramiro an INVACARE power chair. It was in excellent condition.

Judy gives a Bible to Ramiro and presents the Gospel to him and he prayed for assurance.

Marlene is 40 years old and has been bedridden with rheumatoid arthritis for the past 14 years. Her hips are frozen in one position and she cannot sit up. Her family has placed her far from them in a building that does not have lights or running water. They are just waiting for her to die. It was very cold the day we drove two hours to visit her. She did not have enough clothing or blankets to keep her warm.

We presented the gospel to her and she prayed for assurance. She has a Bible and reads it daily.

Other implements...

Felicia is blind and has completed the training classes. She needed a cane. We were able to answer her request. There is a great need for White (mobility) Canes and Braille Slate & Stylus kits (for students to take notes in Braille). We estimate we need at least 100 of each. Can you help?
